ATHLETE FAREWELLED
HAMILTON CLUB CAPTAIN A large gathering of club members and officials of the Hamilton Amateur Athletic Club and kindred clubs gathered in the athletic club’s committee room last evening to bid farewell to ex-club captain (now Quartermaster Sergeant) R. B. Joyes, ol the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Brief valedictory speeches were made by Messrs A. H. Malcolm (president of the H.A.A.C.), R! Manderson and J. M. Row (vicecaptain), who voiced appreciation of Mr Joyes’ services to athletics in Hamilton and wished him every success in his new work. Mr Joyes thanked members of the club for the presentation and reminded them ol the need for keeping the junior and women’s athletic ranks v eil filled during wartime. Executive members and the guest oi honour were afterwards entertained by the president and Mrs Malcolm.
