COMING ELECTIONS

FURTHER CANDIDATES AUCKLAND, Friday The National Party in the Franklin district has chosen the sitting member, Mr J. N. Massey, to contest the seat again. Mr Massey, who is a dairy farmer and a son of the late Mr W. F. Massey, Prime Minister of New Zealand, served as member for j Franklin from 1928 to 1935, and was re-elected in 1938. To contest the Auckland East seat, at present held lor Labour by Mr F. Schramm, the National Party has selected Mr H. T. Merritt, of Auckland, the only nominee. Mr Merritt, who is managing director of H. T. Merritt, Limited, of Auckland and Wellington, was born and educated in England, and began business in New Zealand in 1908. He was closely associated with Chamber of Commerce interests for a number of years, and was an original member of the New Zealand 1928 Committee on Government Interference in Business. He unsuccessfully contested the Auckland East seat in 1938. Mr Merritt has four sons serving in the present war. Two are officers in the Navy and two have commissions in the British Army._
