HOME GUARD

HAMILTON PARADE MANOEUVRES TOMORROW With a record parade of about 900 members, the Hamilton unit of the Home Guard last night received its warning orders for its fieldmanoeuvres to be held tomorrow at Rotokauri. After parading in companies the battalion was formed into a hollow square and the programme for the field exercises were read by Major A. E. Gibbons, who is supervising the instructional work. The battalion will parade at Rugby Park tomorrow at 1.30 p.m. and if the weather is not too wet the occupation of battle positions to repel an imaginary invader will be proceeded with. The manoeuvres have been planned as realistically as possible, and the battalion is to take up positions to fill a gap between other imaginary defensive positions, which it will be deemed will be occupied by territorial forces, the National Military Reserve and Expeditionary Forces in training in the area. For the purposes of the exercises it is imagined that an attacking force has landed at Raglan and is spreading inland. In the event of very unfavourable weather, an alternative programme will be undertaken.

After the reading of the warning orders, the members split up into their compaines and then into platoons and received further paradeground instruction.
