An Australian logging company has landed 80 tons of equipment at Aneitum to exploit the kauri forest in that most southerly New Hebrides island. Export of Aneitum kauri will help to overcome Australia's softwood shortage. Fine Spell Broken The spell of perfect weather experienced in Hamilton during the past week was broken this morning when light, drizzling rain began to fall. Temperatures were considerably warmer during the past 24 hours, the lowest thermometer reading being 64 degrees. The barometer reads 30.10 and indications are for unsettled weather. Drinks Brewery Dry Although the beer strike is in full swing at Lithgow, the local brewery sold out of beer at the week-end—-both bulk and bottled, says the Lithgow correspondent of a Sydney paper. The Anti-Profiteering Committee is conducting the strike, which aims at price reductions, and seems satisfied with its efforts. lj.it, although hotels are practically deserted in the day, a good deal of beer is being drunk. Air Services Further stages of their return journey from Auckland to San Francisco were made by the two flying-boats of Pan American Airways yesterday. The Honolulu Clipper left Canton Island at 5.9 a.m. New Zealand time for Honolulu, arriving there at 7.29 p.m., while the American Clipper reached Canton Island at 6.12 p.m., after leaving Noumea at 5.54 a.m. As a result of the delays the southward flights of both have been delayed, one now reaching San Francisco on March 16 and another on March 26. Traffic Breaches For exceeding the speed limit of 40 miles per hour, with a pillion passenger, near Tamahere on January 2, Ernest Leslie Fransen, of Rotorua, was fined £2 and costs in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today. Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., was on the bench. Alfred Allan Gaudie was also fined £2 for exceeding the speed limit in Ngaruawahia on January 5, and Robert Bruce Nelson had to pay a similar fine for failing to keep to the left of the highway near Tamahere on January 2.
