STEEL FORTRESS
TURKEY IS READY WARNING TO YUGOSLAVIA BULGARIA’S TREACHERY {United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright j LONDON, March 5 The Turkish radio broadcast the ‘following message to Yugoslavia: “It is better to die than to sign the Axis Pact. Remember Rumania’s fate. Immediately she signed the pact she lost her independence, pride and liberty. “Why have the Germans turned to South-east Europe? Because they dare not attack Britain directly. But these Balkan manoeuvres will not affect the result of the war. “Turkey is now a steel fortress, ready to obey the orders of one man.” The Turkish Government is expected to consider its reply to the message from Germany today. In the meantime it has received an encouraging assurance from the Emir of Transjordania that, if Turkey is attacked, the whole of the Arab world will rush to her aid. No Illusions In Turkey There are now no illusions in Turkey regarding Bulgaria’s treachery, says the Ankara correspondent of the Times. Bulgaria voluntarily admitted the German troops and allowed them to prepare its territory as a base for military operations against Greece and, in turn, Turkey. This happened three hours after the Bulgarian Minister to Ankara gave the Turkish Government to understand that Bulgaria was signing the Tripartite Pact in order to avoid German occupation. A message from Jerusalem says the occupation of Bulgaria has caused anxiety in Syria, where the * authorities have revised the military dispositions, reinforced the frontier garrisons, and strengthened the defence works. A check-up is being made on foreigners, 25 of whom are being expelled. ECONOMIC TALKS GERMANY AND RUMANIA (United Press Assn.—Eler. Tel.
