Russian Policy “Let us get a clear grasp oC Russian policy. Stalin has no love for our rulers,” writes Mr Michael Foot in the Evening Standard, London. He will not pull British and French chestnuts out of the fire at his own expense. But he still pursues his policy of avoiding single-handed combat with a powerful Germany. May it not be. therefore, that his long-range interest lies in the dismantling of German power before there is a full danger of Russia being left singlehanded against her? It is possible. And we can surely help to make it possible. But let us have no illusions. If we are to talk to the Russians, it must be in a new language which they understand. We must show I hem by deed and word that we recognise this to be a world civil war. in which one barricade stretches across all continents. On the Nazi side lie the forces which threaten black tyranny for ail men and all nations. On our side of the barricade lie the forces which hold the prospect, not of a return to the old world of pre-1940 but of a new world in which Russia, like ourselves., may secure settled peace.”
