Mr Roosevelt concluded: “It is a pity from the viewpoint of America’s defence effort that many people have been led to believe labour difficulties • are interfering seriously with inJ dustry.” v A message from Detroit states that > the Ford company countered dea mans by the C. 1.0., which threatens a a strike affecting 95,000 men, with 1 a letter to the Governor of Michigan, ‘ j stating that no dispute existed bev 1 tween the company and its emt j ployees and that mediation, there- • 1 fore, was unnecessary. o I The letter said: “The situation was j a cooked-up dispute created solely 0 I to permit hungry agitators to pluck | 1.000,000 dollars yearly in dues from ; j our men.”
