AIR BASES VISITED
SIR CYRIL NEW ALL INSPECTIONS AT AUCKLAND ißy Telegraph.—Special to Time') AUCKLAND, Wednesday The Royal New Zealand Air Force stations at Hobsonville and Whenuapai were visited for the first time yesterday morning by the GovernorGeneral, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Cyril Newail. His Excellency, who was accompanied by the Chief of Air Staff, Air-Commodore H. W. L. Saunders, was attended by Wing-Commander H. C. Bcvan, military secretary and comptroller, and Captain C. J. Holland-Martifi. A.D.C. Aircraft of many and varied types, some beariDg “serviceable” labels and others in different stages «i as-
j sembly or repair, were inspected jin the hangars. Sir Cyril displayed j expert interest in all the stations had i to show, and visited workshops, inI strument rooms, stores, messrooms ; and various quarters. He saw flying training in progress both at Hobsonville, where future instructors were practising, and at Whenuapai, where j elementary trainers, painted bright . yellow, made endless circuits, approaches and landings as pupils learned the rudiments of flying. The Governor-General, also paid a visit to H.M.S. Tamiki. the training centre on Motuihi Island, yesterday afternoon. In addition to the ViceRegal suite His Excellency was accompanied by Commodore W. E. Parry, Chief of the Naval Staff.
