AMERICAN LEGISLATION OPPOSITION TO BILL “INJECTION OF POISON” (L'nited Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received March 5, 11.45 a.m.) WASHINGTON, March 4 Mr Stephen Early, official spokesman for President Roosevelt, said today that sources related to the Lease and Lend Bill opposition are seeking to confuse, mystily, and inject poison into America’s national defence. Opponents of the Bill discussed a filibuster today. It is reported that they had agreed that it would be unwise. Senator Nye indicated that his twohour speech will be delivered late today. Probably it will be the last set speech against the measure. Senator Nye thought the Senate could begin discussing amendments tomorrow. BRITAIN’S FRIEND TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER NOT AFRAID OF WAR (United Press Assn.-—Klee. Tel. Copyrig’Dt) LONDON, March 3 The well-known journalist, Mr G. Ward Price, in the Daily Mail describes the Turkish Foreign Minister, M. Saracoglu, as “ No. 1 key man ” in the Balkan situation. Mr Price, who claims him r.s a personal friend, says M. Saracoglu calls himself John Bull’s foul-weather friend. Mr Price adds: “ He told me on the morning the Germans landed in Norway: ‘ We will always stand by Britain in bad and good times alike. We Turks are not afraid of war. because we have had so much of it. One thing we have learned from war is that it reveals not only the strength but the weakness of your enemies.’ ” Mr Price adds: “ This No. 1 key man is the type to go tigerhunting with. His slogan is, “ We light if the Greeks are attacked.” RUSSIAN OIL SUPPLIES FOR GERMANY ( United Press Assn.— Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, March 4 In an effort to break the oil blockade Germany is chartering or taking over a fleet of Bulgarian, Rumanian and Russian tankers to transport Russian oil across the Black Sea, says the Daily Express Cairo correspondent. Traffic has recommenced on the Danube after one of the shortest winters on record. The Germans have a 2U0,U00-ton fleet of tankers on the Danube to carry oil to Germany. FRANCE AND GERMANY ADMIRAL DARLAN IN PARIS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, March 4 The Foreign Minister at Vichy, Admiral Darlan, will leave for Pans today for a fresh series of talks. He will lunch with M. Laval. Admiral Darlan has paid five visits to Paris since Christmas. A news agency report says that he will be making frequent visits to maintain contact with the occupying authorities. NAVAL RATIONS REDUCTION IN BRITAIN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, March 3 The Admiralty states that reductions in naval rations will come into force about the middle of the month. In all Sea-going ships the daily allowance of meat will be reduced from 12oz. to lOoz. and the weekly allowance of sugar from 240 z. to 21oz. In naval shore establishments the daily allowance of meat will be reduced from Boz. to 6oz. and the weekly allowance of sugar from to 14oz. All naval personnel on leave will in future receive identical rations with civilians. All naval personnel employed ashore, and not victualled from service sources or billeted, will also use civilian ration cards. Billeted naval personnel will use naval ration cards which will be identical with civilian cards except as regards meat, of which there will be a slightly higher allowance.
