Control of Fires The Government's decision to form an Emergency Fire Service of 2000 men in the main centres and at the principal seaports of New Zealand was announced yesterday by Mr R. Girling Butcher inspector of lire brigades. He said the allocation for Auckland would be nearly 500 men, who would be under the control of Mr W. L. Wilson, fire controller for the province.
