CLAUDELANDS TROTS
our McKinney hits out ALCAZAR AND ALBERTINI' TRIALS FOR SATURDAY (By “Padlock”) Ideal weather conditions obtained at Claudelands this morning when the outside of the course proper was in splendid order for the semi-final trials of horses claiming engagements at the Waikato Trotting Club’s Spring Meeting on Saturday. While the programme was not an extensive - one several smart efforts were red corded, among those to please being s Alcazar, Scotty Direct, Albertini, - Bingen’s Fashion, Our McKinney and i Noble Prince. i Marminga (McNickle) and Nawton i Junior (Smith) were associated in a - strong work-out, coming home the r final half-mile of their work in I.IOJ. Worthy Worker (F. T. Primmer) . led Silver Countess (K. Primmer) f over the early part of two miles, but . when the former broke three furl longs from home Silver Countess t took up the running and, though - challenged strongly in the straight, 1 held on to beat her stablemate by a - length and a-half in 6.7. They ran - the last mile in 2.35 and the final half u in 1.14 2-5. Silver Countess executed r her work freely, and was sticking on s at the end. . Interesting Trial One of the features of the mom--5 ing was a mile and a-quarter workout, in which seven horses were associated—Albertini (Cutts), Alcazar (Cockbill), Snowy Bingen (Laird), Llewellyn’s Pet (Geach), Scotty s Direct (Vernall), Our Peggy (Smith) * and Bingen’s Best (Moran). Alcazar B was doing best at the end to shade J Scotty Direct with Albertini at the s , head of the balance, who finished in a bunch. They ran the full distance 1 in 2.57 3-5, and the final half mile in - 1.7 4-5. The three leaders impressed while Bingen’s Best also shaped pleasingly and should soon be seen s to advantage. Bingen’s Fashion (Cutts) and r . Tumble were finishing on solidly ~ over the concluding stages of a mile and a-quarter to record 1.7 3-5 for 1 their final half-mile. Both look in good order for racing ahead. Noble Prince (Oliver) failed to 5 strike a gait as he attempted to jump B off with Our McKinney (Vernall) at the mile and a-quarter, and the latter was pulled up and taken back. ? At the second attempt Noble Prince went away slowly, but was making ” up ground to be within a length of " Our McKinney on the post in 2.58, their last half-mile being cut out in 1.4 2-5. Noble Prince would have prospects on Saturday providing he made no mistakes. He is rather unreliable at the barrier, however. Hottentot (Moran) and Worthy Treasure (Laird) trotted an easy mile and a-half, which they completed in 3.57 2-5, their final half-mile in 1.13. Both are bearing a healthy appear- ■ ance. 1 Others to be allotted useful work 1 were Margin, Katene, Jewel Junior, 1 and Ptolomy.
