Nicholson, aged 23 years, a fighter pilot, received from the King this morning the Victoria Cross, which was awarded him for bravery, when, although wounded in a plane on fire, he remained in the burning aircraft and attacked and shot down an enemy fighter Flight-Lieutenant Nicholson, who received bums, was in hospital for some time. The King had a long talk with the airman in the private audience chamber, where the investiture took place.
