GALA NIGHT
CLOSING OF CARNIVAL ALL QUEENS PARTICIPATE The eleven queens participating in the Waikato Patriotic Queen Carnival will be in Hamilton on Monday night for the grand gala night which will close the carnival. Comprehensive arrangements for the entertainment of the public have been made and the closing function should be one of the features of the campaign. Already keen interest is being taken in the inter-house relay wheelbarrow derby, one of the conditions of which is that.the four competitors in each team have to wear fancy dress. With the streets roped off. bands playing at various points, coloured stalls erected, concert parties on lorries and dancing in the streets, the carnival should appeal to young and old. Floats will be provided for all the queens and the counting of the voting will commence in Garden Place at 10 p.m., the voting to close at midnight. The progress of the voting will be announced through loud-speakers, and it is expected that there will be many bright interludes as first one queen and then another takes the lead.
