MINES AT HUNTLY

WORKING AGAIN TWO STOPPED YESTERDAY AGREEMENT OVERLOOKED (Special to Times) HUNTLY, Tuesday The Rotowaro and MacDonald coalmines, which were idle yesterday for separate and different reasons, were worked today. All the other mines on the Huntly coalfield worked full time yesterday, in accordance with the arrangements made some time ago with the managements to work on the King’s Birthday and take the holiday on December 23. The reason for the stoppage at Rotowaro yesterday was given as resentment at the statements made by the managements before the Hamilton District Manpower Committee in Huntly last week. The men met before work was due to commence and decided not to work as a mark of protest against some of the statements. A local dispute concerning the payment of truckers was stated to be the cause of the stoppage at MacDonald, but the men returned to work this morning. There is no indication as to how the stoppage of two mines yesterday will affect the closing of the mines on December 21 for the holiday period, as those collieries which were worked yesterday will not be required to work on December 23. Although MacDonald and Rotowaro have missed one day's work already, no statement has been made by the men as to whether they will work on December 23.
