QUEEN CARNIVAL VOTES BIG PAYMENT YESTERDAY CAMBRIDGE MOVES HIGHER Making a payment of £683 yesterday, the Raglan queen in the Waikato patriotic queen carnival, Mrs F. C. Johnstone, moved to the lead ahead of the Morrinsville queen. The two leading candidates have both
passed the 200,000 mark in votes and have a considerable lead over the remaining nine queens. Six of the queens have exceeded the 100.000 mark in voting. A keen contest has developed for the leading places and the Cambridge queen, Mrs Mervyn Wells, has moved up to deprive the Nurses’ queen, Miss Sophie Ryburn, of fourth position. Several functions were held for the various queens yesterday, which was a public holiday, and it is expected that the voting should soar to-morrow.
