IMPORTED BULLS

JERSEYS FROM AMERICA A series of victories has already been scored at the season’s leading Jersey shows by the first of the imported bulls in the recent Macmonnies’ shipment, from New Jersey to be shown in the Dominion. Although only sold in August and not yet acclimatised, three of these bulls, the only ones so far shown, scored; major honours at the Waikato and Hawera Shows. At the former show, Mr F. Geek easily won a very strong two-year-old class with Franchise Wonderful Aim, junr., and this most attractive bull, who is said to be a replica of his great sire, was a strong contender for championship hdnours. This bull was purchased by Mr Geek for 300gns. At Hawera the outstanding yearling winner was Mr Truby King’s beautiful quality bull, Golden Franchise Aim, purchased for 450gns—joint top price Both of these bulls were sired by Franchise Wonderful Aim, who was undefeated in his class at seven Jersey Island Shows, and is now at the head of the famous Twin Oaks Stud in New Jersey. The second winner at the Hawera Show was Messrs A. G. Colson and Sons’ two-year-old bull, Nuriel’s Dreaming Royalist, by another famous sire in Dreaming Royalist, who won the “bull and progeny” class on the Island in 1933 He also is in the Twin Oaks herd where Nuriel’e Dreaming Royalist was bred. The latter bull, who also realised 450gns at the Macmonnies’ sale, was later in the day awarded the Reserve Championship, and on the second day headed the Champion Breeders’ Group over all breeds. There is little doubt that these bulls will leave a distinctive mark on the breed here, a point that was strongly emphasised j by Mr C. E. Robertson when selling these bulls at the auction held at Auckland by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Four of the bulls in the previous Macmonnies’ shipment also sired winners at the Waikato Show, two of these also taking champion and reserve championships in the junior division.
