WIN FOR COUNTRY
MARGIN ON FIRST INNINGS AITKEN AND BRIGHT AGAIN Thanks mainly to a solid fourthwicket partnership of 131 by Aitken and Bright, the Country team yesterday at Seddon Park defeated Town on the first by 161 runs. Town, which batted first on a perfect wicket, was dismissed for 102. None of the batsmen was particularly impressive, the score mounting very slowly. The most successful bowlers for Country were Bright and McGoughran who took four wickets for 39 and 31 runs respectively. Country began disastrously, losing three wickets for 11 runs. Aitken and Bright, who are both showing remarkable batting form at present, became associated. Early in his innings Bright gave Cassidy a chance which the bowler failed to accept. Later Cassidy became expensive, Bright taking two sixes off one over. For a time the batsmen scored quietly but once Town’s first-innings total was passed they opened out and the score mounted quickly. With 142 on the board, Bright lifted a ball from Hope high and Cassells, racing round, took a good catch. Included in Bright’s tally of 72 were five fours and three sixes. After scoring a well-earned 79, which included one six and six fours, Aitken retired. His batting display was one/ of the best exhibitions seen at Seddon Park this season. Hanley alsoi scored freely all round the wicket, giving a splendid display for his 67 before he retired. The umpires were Messrs W. Brocklebank and Norman Winger. Details:— TOWN—First Innings T.
