FOSSIL OYSTER LOST
ON LOAN TO EXHIBITION ] (By Telegrapn.—special to Times) ; INVERCARGILL, Tuesday - A fossil oyster which the Southland, Museum Board lent for display at the - Centennial Exhibition has been lost. The director of the museum, Mr J. H. Sorensen, at a meeting of the board, said he had written to those in charge of the Government court at the exhibition, but had been unable to trace the specimen. Mr R. H. Parker: It is typical of many things up there. *Any amount of valuable material has been lost. . Mr Sorensen said that the fossil oyster was a beautiful specimen and weighed about 801 b. Dr. G. H. Uttley: It is a shame that this has gone astray. It was of exceptional .size. Everything possible has been done to discover the whereabouts of the specimen, said Mr Sorensen. It was decided to advise the man- ■ agement of the Government court of j the board’s views on the loss of its specimen.
