DARING RAID

ITALIANS ATTACKED WAIKATO SOLDIER’S PART Believed to be the first member or the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force to take part in a major encounter with the Italian forces in Egypt. Captain T. C. Wallace, of Bi untwood, Cambridge, was -a member of a party which took prisoners from enemy concentrations recently on the Libyan frontier. Full details of the exploit are reported from Egypt on page 15 of today's issue. Captain Wallace was a farmer in the Bruntwood district before enlisting for service with the First Echelon. With the rank of captain he was posted to the 2nd New Zealand Divisional Cavalry Regiment as Squadron Commander, and at the time of the raid he was attached to a British regiment. Before the war he was a capta n in the Waikato Mounted Rifles Regiment and also the Chief of the Cambridge Caledonian Society.
