TOPICS OF THE DAY
Record of Civilisation “ In these eventful times we of the remaining free peoples are writing, by our acts, by the expressions of our faith in the power of the right, and by our sincerity and courage, new and indelible pages in the history of civilisation,” writes Frank L. Perrin in an American paper. “ Let us remember, when the temptation comes to regard our responsibilities as individuals or as a people, somewhat lightly, that in the lives and experiences of persons, as well as of nations, occasions of stress and crisis demand more than passive endurance and more than a professed belief that the noncombatant observer, if neutral and unprejudiced, will escape unscathed and only slightly inconvenienced. The emergencies and possible perils of the present hour, duplicated and multiplied by the tragedies'beyond the seas, have not come upon peoples thus far immune without premonitory warnings.”
