SHIRLEY TEMPLE
FROBLEAI OF HER FUTURE j STAR WITH DEANNA DURBIN I Shirley Temple may not retire from the screen after all. The Temples are discussing her future! with Joe Pasternak, of Universal. ! Mr Pasternak, in case you don't ! remember, is the man who upset all the film world’s most cherished theories by making a big star ot : Deanna Durbin. He is anxious to star Shirley with Deanna, Gloria Jean or a cast of “important grown-up stars.” “I am certainly not out to try and prove that Darryl Zanuck was wrong,” he says, “but I believe that there is still a place on the screen for Shirley, though not as a solo star. No studio can afford in this day and age to pay a £50.000 salary for a star in a single movie.” Mr Pasternak evidently believes in team work. He has been negotiat- , ing with Fred Astaire to appear in: “Special Delivery.” If the deal comes j off Fred will be co-starred with ; Gloria Jean and Baby Sandy. j
