EXPORT APPEAL

COMMENT FROM MR NASH (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday Commenting this evening on a statement concerning the importance of the British export trade from the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association, published this week, the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, said the United Kingdom Government had urged the New Zealand Government to confine its imports to essential commodities. After provision had been made to meet debt and other commitments, authority had been given for the issue of import licenses for the full value of the estimated sterling which would be available in 1941. Instructions in connection with authorities for licensing contained a provision that any goods which it was essential to import must, if available from that source, be imported from the United Kingdom.
