PEACE CUP RUGBY
CLARIFICATION OF RULE PLAYERS’ QUALIFICATIONS (By Telegraph. —'Special to Times') AUCKLAND, Thursday A request for clarification of Peace Cup rules was received by the AuckthodW “5 by TT Ullion l£,St n ‘ ght fTOm the Waihi Union, the request concerning the residential qualifications of players. The question arose through thp presence of three players Potier, Dunne and Wright, in the Pukekohe team which played Waihi for the cup on September 21 it being contended that none of these players was in actual fact a Pukekohe player. . The South Auckland Union, having been asked for its version of the ma , tt f, r j • r , e ? l i ed stating that Potter and Wright had both been fnembers p f. st three of clubs affiliated directly with the Pukekohe sub-union, and therefore their status could not be challenged, while Dunne had applied for a transfer from its Manukau sub-union as long ago as June, and this transfer had been granted on September 14. In any case there were no longer any subunion boundaries in the South Auckland area. The chairman, Mr A. A. Baker, said the Peace Cup rules constituted the Auckland Union the court of appeal in all cases of dispute, but there was no provision in the rules to prevent a player in one sub-union from playing for another sub-union within the same area. On his motion it was decided to inform the Waihi Union of the absence of any rule covering the matter, and to make representations to the interested unions with a view to having some such rule incorporated.
