LIES ABOUT EGYPT DENIAL OF RATIONING MINOR BOOM EXPERIENCED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Oct. 15 According to reports from Egypt, regular readers of the newspaper A 1 Misri were surprised on opening their newspapers to see the headline: “A 1 Misri suspended for 10 days.” Beneath it appeared the following message broadcast by the Axis: “ Reports from the Egyptian frontier reveal that Egypt is surging with agitation owing to the prohibition by the British authorities of any criticism of their seizure of foodstuffs. A 1 Misri, the organ of the influential Wafd Party, has been suspended for 10 days for criticism of the authorities. The Wafd has issued a warning that non-co-operation would be declared unless the decision was cancelled.” A 1 Misri, which, of course, has not been suspended, contents itself with a brief addition: “ This is the latest lie about Egypt by Italian and German broadcasts. We publish it without comment.” In fact, there has been no requisitioning or rationing whatever in Egypt- On the contrary, the country is experiencing a minor boom, owing to the British purchase of the entire cotton crop, valued at £30,000,000, and the expenditure of about £20,000,000 by the British fighting services in Egypt.
