GAMING CHARGE

BETTING MATERIAL FOUND i A fine of £IOO was imposed on j Steve Dominikovich, of Hamilton, when he was convicted by Mr S. L. Paterson S.M., in the Magistrate’s | Court. Hamilton, to-day, for keeping ; a common gaming house. Detective J. Hayes prosecuted and Mr N. S. Johnson appeared for Dominikovich. | Last Saturday on the first day of ! the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie, Detective Hayes stated, a search warrant issued under the Gaming Act was executed on the premises occupied by Dominikovich in Garden Place. £133 in Bets Dominikovich was sitting at his desk at the time. Double charts, betting slips, and books were found in the office. It was about 10.45 a.m. and up to that time the books showed that Dominikovich had received £75 15s on doubles and £57 5s in win and place betting, a total of £133 10s. "The office appeared to be used solely for betting.” added Detective Hayes. "Dominikovich is recognised as one of the leading bookmakers in Hamilton. He has been before the court on several occasions for offences against the Gaming Act. The last occasion was last year when he was convicted and fined £100.” Mr Johnson said although the occupation pursued by Dominikovich was illegal, it could be said in his favour that he was always honest in his transactions. Like other bookmakers in Hamilton, he had iound that the war had reduced his business considerably.
