CARS REMOVED

THREE IN HAMILTON FOUR SOLDIERS IN COURT Three motor-cars were unlawfully removed from their parking positions in Hamilton last night and two were recovered by this morning. In connection with one of those recovered, four soldiers, three of them Maoris, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today. The property of Mr J. H. Christini, a car was removed from Tristram Street between 9 o’clock and 10 o’clock last night, but was found in Te Aroha Street this morning. Between 7 and 7.45 o’clock last night a blue four-door sedan, bearing the number 165.146, the property of Miss Mary Casey, was removed from Grey Street, Hamilton East.

Shortly after midnight a car belonging to Mr J. W. G. Stokes was removed from its parking position at Te Rapa, but was later recovered. Following the incident four soldiers from the Hopu Hopu military camp were apprehended by the police and appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of unlawful conversion of the car. They were Edward Iraia, aged 21. a Maori, David George Ngaro Atutahi, aged 21, a Maori, Hoera Paputene. aged 26, a Maori, and Ivan Martin White, aged 22, a European. On the application of Senior-Sergeant A. G. McHugh the four were remanded until October 21 and were given into the custody of the military authorities until that time.
