PETER PAN’S LETTER

J)EAR GIRLS AND BOYS, Oh, dear, what a frowning mood the Weather Man has been in this last week; Peter and the Circle People have been feeling very cross for the rain has washed out all of Peter’s tiny plants and has nearly ruined the Wendy Person’s lily-of-the-valley whose delicate white waxen petals have been peeping from their pale green sheafs. Everywhere the Circle People go they find lovely soft carpets of pink and white petals which have been blown from the cherry trees by those mischievous wind elves and such lots and lots of petals are to be found floating in the air or sliding gently down to the ground. The Sunshine Girl had such a beautiful bouquet of the sweet-est-scented lilac sent to her the other day and Peter loves its pale mauve and white flowers which are clustered so closely about their deep green leaves. And then there are some of the loveliest sprays of deep flame-shaded waratah in bloom with their great heads bowing in the breeze. Those mischievous sprites Anthony Alan and Jennifer Joan have been feeling very proud of themselves for they have found lots of tiny gold and brown baby fish in Peter’s lily-pond and now those little rascals are trying to find a name for each and every one of them although the Circle People are quite, quite sure that they will never be able to tell any of them apart. And now lots and lots of love to you all little people, to the big ones, the little ones, and those in between, with hopes for the gayest of gay smiles from the Weather Man in the next week and the jolliest of garden surprises,

From yours, On-top-of-the-world,
