CARDS FOR GOLFERS

PROOF OF MEMBERSHIP COUNCIL ADOPTS PROPOSAL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday No election of officers was necessary at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council, held today, the nominations equalling the number of seats. The Hon. Vincent Ward replaces Mr C. A. Burgess, who is in camp. The response to the clubs’ patriotic contests resulted in £1266 being handed to the National Fund, the clubs contributing £985 and the association subsidy being £2Bl. A suggestion by the Metropolitan Golf Association, put forward by Mr Ward, that a membership card be given every financial member of a ciub to hold during the season, was approved. The cards are to carry a ciate and the year, and the idea is to prevent roving golfers, many of whom belong to no club, from claiming membership in some distant club, thus securing play without contributing to the upkeep of any club except in green fees.
