FINANCIAL SUCCESS

MATAMATA RACING CLUB £275 TO PATRIOTIC FUNDS A net profit of £2OOO on the two race meetings and a final profit of £879 on the year was reported at the annual meeting of the Matamata Racing Club. The secretary, Mr B. C. Taylor, said that so far as he could ascertain, only two other clubs, Pukekohe and Waipa, had exceeded that figure. In his annual report the chairman, Mr J. W. Tims, referred to the loss of three members, in the late Messrs A. Mateer, J. Mclntyre and G. W. Vercoe. The net profit for the year was better than for the previous year, as there was an extra day’s racing. As a result of the second day, £275 had been handed to patriotic funds. A publican’s booth had been erected during the year. The farm, under the management of Mr Earl Johnston, had shown a net profit of £335 14s Bd. Training tracks and grounds were still improving and the number of horses in training had appreciably increased. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P.; president, Mr J. W. Tims; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs G. Johnston, C. J. Casey and J. Corbett; committee, Messrs G. G. Bell. R. Holmes, H. Johnston, J. Landells, J. Price, A. Stewart; auditor, Mr L. H. Little. It was decided to donate £lO 10s to a fund to assist the horseman Rangi Thompson, whose riding career had been brought to a close by an accident.
