Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton, returned from Wellington this morning.

Captain H. T. Abbey (Singapore) and Mr M. L. A. Williams (New Plymouth) are at the Hamilton Hotel.

Lieutenant J. A. Pountney, N.Z.S.C., of Hamilton, has been appointed Adjutant, Bth Medium Battery, N.Z.A., and retains the appointment of Instructor of Gunnery.

Mr Clive Tidmarsh, cable editor of the Manawatu Evening Standard, Palmerston North, and formerly of the Waikato Times literary staff, visited Hamilton today.

Major R. F. H. P. Stuart-French, 11th Hussars, who has been military secretary to the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, since March, has relinquished his appointment because of ill health.

Mr W. G. Walkley, of Sydney, arrived at Auckland by the flying-boat Awarua yesterday and left for San Francisco by the California Clipper this morning. Formerly of Hawera, Mr Walkley was some years ago secretary to the North Island Motor Union.

Mr A. R. Mangnall, of the teleprinter staff in the Wellington Post Office, a son of Mr W. Mangnall, of Te Rapa, has joined the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy as a telegraphist. Mr Mangnall was formerly on the post and telegraph staff in Hamilton and has been in Wellington for about one and ahalf years. His brother, LeadingSignaller R. Mangnall, is also in the Navy and was in H.M.S. Achilles in the Battle of the River Plate.
