FOR AUSTRALIA
SURPLUS POTATOES FURTHER SHIPMENT ARRANGED BIG QUANTITY UNSOLD (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Arrangements for the shipment of another 1000 tons of New Zealand potatoes to Australia have been completed by the Government and consignments are now being made up. Although official confirmation was not available from Wellington this morning, Timaru merchants received orders for the shipment of 300 tons immediately, and Christchurch merchants to supply a further 700 tons. In Timaru the price paid is a distinct improvement at £2 10s on trucks compared with 30s to £2 lor earlier purchases. The new purchases are additional to the 5000 tons sent to Australia under the first agreement. Estimates vary as to the quantity of potatoes so far unsold in Canterbury, and run as high as 20,000 tons.
