DEADLOCK LIKELY
AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT VERY SMALL MAJORITY RESULTS OF ELECTION (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright/ SYDNEY, Sept. 30 A Government majority of not more than two seats, or possibly a deadlock, with the Government and Labour Parties in equal numbers and the Independents holding the balance of power, is indicated in the latest election returns for the House of Representatives. The Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, who has just returned from a few days’ rest, today declined to discuss the formation of an all-Party Government.
He said he preferred to wait until the election results were complete, probably at the end of the week. Members of the Cabinet admit that a National Government will be the only solution of an extremely difficult situation.
