AIMS IN GOVERNMENT
NATIONAL PARTY PLATFORM RALLY WELL ATTENDED (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) PUKEKOHE, Monday “ There is a revivifying force in the National Part/ to-day,” said Mr G. M. Smith, divisional president of the New Zealand National Party, at a rally of members and supporters in Pukekohe tonight. There was an attendance of fully 500. Addresses were given by Mr Smith, Mr A. Gordon, Dominion president of the party, the Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes, of Auckland, Mr A. W. Grant and Dr. Hilda Northcroft, on behalf of the women’s branches. Referring to the platform adopted at the recent conference of the party, Mr Smith said the first plank was the application of Christian principles to all the activities of government. The second plank was the putting forth of the utmost effort for the winning of the war. Another plank was for the revision of the licensing laws of the Dominion. Mr Gordon said it had been said that this was not a time to be concerned with party politics. The great task was to win the war. One might be pardoned, however, for fearing that in winning the war we might see slipping from us the very liberty for which we were making this great effort. It was the duty of those left at home to ensure that those who had gone to fight the country’s battles would return to a country where the way was open for improvements spiritually, morally and materially. MR BROADFOOT AT WAIHI especial to Times) TE AROHA, Monday A large number of supporters of the National Party met in Waihi to hear an address delivered by Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo. Mr W. C. Kennedy occupied the chair and gave a brief outline of the work of the party in the South Auckland District. Mr Broadfoot dealt with many matters affecting the party and received a cordial vote of thanks at the conclusion of his address. The chairman and Mr Broadfoot referred to the loss the party had sustained in the passing of Mr A. E. Jull, M.P., and a vote of sympathy was passed with his relatives.
