Continued Training Refused

The following telegram has been received by the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, from the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, in answer to his suggestion that the Ist Auckland Battalion should continue with its training. “In reference to your wire regarding the Auckland Battalion continuing their training, this unit, as you know, has already had three months’ intensive training, and in the opinion of the military authorities, it is not considered necessary that this should be continued. The matter has also been considered by the War Cabinet, who are in agreement with the recommendations made by the Chief of the General Staff.”
