DISTRESS FUND
FURTHER DONATIONS £7Bl 4s 3d IN HAMILTON LONDONERS’ HOUR OF TRIAL The fund which was opened by the Waikato Times for the relief of distress in London has mounted to £7Bl 4s 3d. Realising the urgency of the cause to which the fund will be devoted, many people in the Waikato have given generously, thus giving a recognition of the splendid spirit which has characterised the Londoners in their hours of trial and suffering. Day by day news of the attacks on London have circulated the world, but so calm are the civilians that little has been said regarding their reactions to the terrors which have been let loose upon them. In fact, it seems that in the English mind little need be said, for they are accepting the war and its attendant horrors in the true British spirit. However, although Londoners have not said a great deal about their troubles, their difficulties have been recognised in other fields of the Empire, and every possible measure has been taken to relieve the suffering and privation which must arise from the Nazi attacks, on civilians. Every day money is pouring into the Lord Mayor of London’s fund. The following donations to the Waikato Times fund are acknowledged:— £ s d Previously acknowledged 758 1 3 W. B.
