SOCIAL NOTES

Mrs G. E. A. Wilkes, Hamilton, is spending a holiday at Atherree.

Mrs M. A. Pollard returned to Hamilton today from a visit to Rotorua.

Mrs A. Moore has arrived from Auckland to take up her residence in Hamilton.

Mrs R. S. James, Devonport, Auckland, is visiting her daughter, Mrs W. S. McEwen, “Craigknoll,” Pukeroro.

Miss A. F. Bell, Hawera, is visiting Hamilton. Members of St. Aidan’s Guild, and not of St. Andrew’s Guild, as published in Saturday’s paper, are in charge of the Red Cross shop in Garden Place on Tuesday. Gifts of all saleable articles will be appreciated and may be left at the shop.

The ladies of the St. Paul’s Methodist Guild recently entertained the inmates of the Old Men’s Home, when afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Bradley, Robson, De Luen, Young, Jebson and Fulton. Solos and duets were charmingly rendered by Mrs Colin Wilson and Miss Ibbotson, and Mrs Dixon gave elocutionary items. Community singing was enjoyed with Miss Ibbotson at the piano. Mr Childs thanked the guild on behalf of the old folk for a very happy afternoon.

First aid classes are held in the Taupiri Hall every week under the precautionary emergency scheme. Dr. D. Martin, of Ngaruawahia, is to deliver a series of lectures. The attendance, which numbers about 140 each evening, is comprised of residents of Orini, Tenfoot, Rutherfords Road and Taupiri districts, supervised by Messrs W. B. Cumming, of Taupiri, and Mr A. and Miss Howell, of Orini. Under the same scheme meetings have been held of transport, signalling, and engineering sections.
