SUNDAY WORK ISSUE

GOLD DREDGES IDLE (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) GREYMOUTH, Sunday There was a general stoppage of work on West Coast gold dredges today, following the decision at the annual meeting of the Dredge Workers’ Union yesterday to oppose Sunday work. The men are expected to be working as usual tomorrow. The union works a 48-hour week, and Sunday work brings the total to from 52 to 58 hours. The men state that, as in other industries employees are paid time and a-half and double time on Saturdays, they should be entitled to double or treble time for Sundays.
