FISHING PROSPECTS
SEASON OPENS ON TUESDAY FEWER LICENSES ISSUED When the trout-fishing season L j the Auckland Acclimatisation distrid | oDens on Tuesday local angle) should enjoy some excellent sport. The winter has be*»n exceptionally good, with a complete absence of i floods in the streams, and the mild spring should make fishing conditions ideal. The nolicy of the Auck- ! land Acclimatisation Society in lib- ; erating fingerlings instead of fry should result in smaller numbers of undersize fish being encountered than in previous years. | As previously announced, certain parts of the Waikato River near ; Araouni have been declared a forbidden zone by the military authori- - ties, but elsewhere the river should give excellent fishing. Trout liberations have also been made in the ; Pirongia and Te Awamutu areas and |in the Punui. Kaniwhanawhana. : Mangatapu. Waitomo, Lower Waij hou and Pokaiwhenua streams. Fewer licenses have been issued in the Auckland district so far, ow- : ing to petrol restrictions, and many of the younger anglers being on war ' | service, but some improvement is hoped for when the Taupo-Rotorua season opens in a month’s time.
