TWO COMMISSIONERS
ASSISTING HOMELESS WIDESPREAD DEMANDS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 28, 3.15 p.m ) LONDON, Sept. 27 The Ministries of Health and Home Security have answered the widespread demands for “dictators” to deal with the cumulative problems of shelters, homeless people and increasingly chilly nights, by the appointment of special commissioners. Mr Henry Willinks, K.C., and Sir William Fisher. Mr Malcolm Macdonald in announcing Mr Henry Willinks’ appointment, said that there had been seme delay and overlapping in dealing with evacuations from the bombed areas. Mr Willinks’ powers will cover every aspect of temporarily or permanently homeless people, including issuing orders to local authorities. He must co-ordinate and speed up evacuation and re-housing.
Sir John Anderson revealed that Sir W. Fisher’s powers would be similarly far-reaching, covering London’s 101 authorities, and dealing with water, gas, electricity, telephone, sewerage and road repairs.
