SHORTAGE OF TRUCKS
MANURE FOR FARMERS j MORE RAPID DELIVERY (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Friday A suggestion from the Cambridge committee for increased production that the shortage of railway trucks could be overcome if farmers were notified from the station immediately goods arrived is likely to prove effec- | tive. A letter explaining the situa- | tion was sent to the Minister of Rail- . ways, who replied that the Railway Department appreciated the necesj sity for having waggons discharged I expeditiously. | The Minister stated that should i any difficulty be experienced in | making contact with consignees, the j railway staff was authorised to make ! use of toll calls or the telegraph for ' | the purpose. If farmers know im- ■ j mediately that goods had arrived for them, the trucks could be released ! at least a day earlier. J j It was stated that there was diffii ; culty in making orders for super for • j delivery in the autumn, and the [ ; secretary was requested to investi- » gate the position with the manufacturers. In connection with farm hands who were called up for military training, the meeting decided to write to the area officer asking for the personnel of the Manpower Committee and the method of approach to it. A suggestion was made that men from training . camps could assist with harvesting during the summer, and the position will be investigated.
