WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

NOTICE TO MEMBERS

Members of the Hamilton Group of the Women’s Institutes are reminded that a meeting will be held in the Y.W.C.A. at 2 o'clock on Friday, October 4, when Mrs J. Ward Chapman will speak on the Dominion Council report. JUBILEE Mrs King, the president, presided at the September meeting ol the jubilee Women's Institute. Members stood in silence in respect for an esteemed member, Miss Joan Fowle, whose death is deeply regretted. Business was then dealt with and the secretary read the report on the gioup meeting, which is to be held at Horotiu. Members are to take sandwiches and scones, and the bus will be leaving from the Frankton depot at 10.10 a.m. Miss Betty Pinfold gave a most interesting demonstration of painting on glass and displayed many of her articles. Afternoon tea was then served by the hostesses: Mesdames Mclndoe, Mrs A. Fisher 2; toffee, Mrs Higgins was at the trading table. Competition results were as follows:—Toymaking, Mrs Higgins 1, Mrs A. Fisher 2; toffee, Mrs Higgins; spring flowers, Mrs Sandos 2, Mrs Mclndoe and Mrs Thornley (equal) Jubilee held its first flower show, which was an outstanding success. Mrs Sanders judged the blooms and expressed the hope that the Institute would carry on in this direction, as the display was excellent_

TE AWAMUTTT BIRTHDAY PARTY There was a very large gathering of members and visitors at the Tc Awamutu Women’s Institute’s twelfth birthday party held recently. The president, Mrs Angus, welcomed i guests from Ohaupo, Puahue. Te Kawa, Kihikihi, and the Waikato Federation, and also from the Tp Awamutu branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and the St. John Women’s Auxiliary. The cup competition was won by Mrs Ball. Other competitions were won by Mesdames Garrett (Puahue), Steer, Tucker, and Penman. The following programme was enjoyed:—Mrs Nicholson, pianoforte solo; Institute Glee, selections; Me?, dames Blackler and Ramsay, songs; Misses O’Brien, violin; Valeric Richards and Betty Adams, dances; Miss M. Ross, elocution. Mr; Nicholson and Master C. O'Brien acted as accompanists, j The tables had been artistically decorated by Mrs W. Locke with blue and gold spring flowers. Afternoon tea was served by members of the local Institute. Mrs J. Ward Chapman, president of the Waikato Federation, cut the cake, after which Mrs Angus was presented by the visitors with many beautiful posies and good wishes.
