GRACIE FIELDS

QUESTIONS IN PARLIA3IENT MONEY TAKEN TO AMERICA Further questions concerning Gracie Fields, who is now in Hollywood, and her pianist, Mr Davis, are to be asked in the House of Commons by Mr J. J. Davidson (Lab., Maryhill), says a London paper. Mr Davidson will inquire of the Secretary to the Treasury “whether any restriction was placed on Miss Fields when she left this country recently affecting the amount of money and the value of jewellery to be taken out, and if so, can he state the amount and value allowed respectively?”

He will also ask “whether an. 4 restriction was placed on Mr Davis when he left this country recently affecting the amount of money to b( taken out, and ,if so, can he stat* the amount allowed?

Replying to Mr Davidson, Sir Joh> Anderson, the Home Secretary, th other day denied that Gracie and he Italian husband, Monty Bank

(Mario Bianchi), had been allowed to take extra money out of the country. Miss Fields is to be defended in the House by Dr. H. B. Morgan, the newly-elected M.P. for Rochdale, her home town. Dr. Morgan stated, “It is an abuse of Parliamentary privilege to make charges against an individual without producing evidence, and I consider it my duty to see that Miss Field’s reputation is not damaged by such questions. Her point of view has not been put before the public.” Monty Banks, in Hollywood, denied charges in the Commons that he had sent funds to assist Italy’s war effort.
