SHIP DESERTION
SIX WEEKS* GAOL IMPOSED (By Telegraph-—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday A sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., on George Norman, aged 37, seaman and fireman, for desertion from an overseas ship. The company representative said the ship was a food ship loading for the United Kingdom, and he suggested that desertions from such ships in certain cases could cause serious embarrassment to the whole community. From the dock Norman denounced thrt conditions existing on the shin.
