ORPHANAGE APPEAL
UNITED CHURCH ASSISTANCE TODAY'S COLLECTION A united appeal, in which nearly all the churches are taking part, is being held throughout the Auckland Province today to raise £IO,OOO for the various orphanages. In Hamilton collectors were stationed at different points and most people who were approached contributed willingly to the appeal. The war has made the work of the orphanages more difficult, with the higher cost of living, and increased financial responsibilities. Only 10 per cent of the children are
sustained by the Government, the remainder being supported by income derived from private and public subscriptions. When these homes extend accomodation to evacuee children from Britain an added strain will be placed on their funds. For these reasons the orphanages urgently require money and deserve the utmost support from the public.
