RURAL HOUSING LOAN OTOROHANGA RATEPAYERS (Special to Times) O TOROHANQpA, THursday That farmers and other ratepayers in the otorohanga County are not wholly In favour or the utoronanga County Council's making application for a rural housing loan or up to £20,000 was evident at a meeting of the Otorohanga branch of the .New Zt-aiand Farmers’ Union. The meeting decided that the chairman or the County Council he asked to call a special meeting of ratepayers, and failing his doing so that the chairman of the branch, iMr G. NV. L. Incidence of Petrol Ration A remit concerning petrol rationing from the Malioenui branch of the Farmers’ Union met with unanimous su4>ix*rt from tin utorohauga branch. The remit was as follows : ••That the Controller or Oil Fuel be asked to explore channels of pet nr conservation other than restricting tin operations of farmers’ transport lacuities The abolition of race meetings. Government departmental transport and private car use in towns are suggested as being worth investigation.” Territorial Promotion* At the completion or three months’ intensive training at Narrow Neck, the following N.c .o.s from Otorohanga have been notified or their promotion: Private N. Home Guard Section The Klo Kio section or the Home Guard under lue leadership of Mr A. lu Willis was recently iparadgd for Inspection by .Major li. S. 8. Westmacott (utewa). The section gave a practical display oi trench digging and defence work generally'. .some excellent scores were registered at a teams shoot—the grouping being particularly good. The results of the team’s match were: K McDonn.Ud’s team 1, L. Palmer’s team 2, W. Desmond’s team 3. Otorohanga Tannis Club The annual meeting or the Otorohanga Tennis Club disclosed a satisfactory past season’s workings and a solid hnancia position. M Quin defeated B. Sheohan In the matcn play cup final, 12 and 10. The fourball best-ball bogey was won by Tarrant and Thompson, 2 up. M. Thompson defeated Mexted in the senior championship semi-final, 3 and 2. In me junior championship matches Irvine defeated Lear c ! ana 5, and Kehaly defeated A. Ormsby 3 ! and 2. in the Pewter Mug competition Jackson and Lawrence deleaied Lee und j A. Ormsby 2 up, and Tarrant and Rhodes ; won from Turnbull and Cornfoot at tue 19th. in the C grade championship final. Cost ley beat Lawrence at the i&th. in the women’s events Miss Vena Connell won the Parry-Itowland Shield, 99, 33, 60. In tbe semi-final of the senior chainpionsnip Mrs Austin defeated Mrs C. A. Jackson 4 and 3, and Mrs Whyte beat Mrs Miller f» and 4. The final of the Steadman-Herbert Cup (fur men) was played on tiie Te Kuiti clubs links. Fleming (Otorohanga) defeated u. Holson (otorohanga), 4 and 3. Fleming elso won the President’s Handicap with 78-8-70. Playing lu fine form. Fleming defeated O’Connell in the final of the senior championship, 7 and 0.
