BARTHOLOMEW TIMBER SUCCESSFUL YEAR’S TRADING When moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet of the Bartholomew Land and Timber Company, Limited, at the annual meeting in Hamilton yesterday, Mr A. L. Tompkins, chairman of directors, stated that a satisfactory year had been experienced and the company had been able to pay shareholders a bonus of 1 per cent, In addition to the usual dividend. All North Island sawmills had been kept very busy supplying Government needs for camps and military requirements, orders having been received for both low and high grade timbers. The formation of the three Forestry Companies and the recruiting for the military forces, generally, had taken a large number of men from the industry, with the result that experienced men were hard to secure. The position was likely to be accentuated as the war continued. The plant of the company had been well maintained and was working effectively, added Mr Tompkins. The reserves of the company had been increased. The retiring director. Mr J. A. Gentles, was re-elected and Mr L. N. Ross was re-appointed auditor. Mr Tompkins was re-elected chairman of directors. Reference to the loyal co-opera-tion of the staff was made by the chairman and a vote of thanks for their services was carried.
