MEAT SUPPLY
POSITION IN HAMILTON CHANGE OF ARRANGEMENTS The Hamilton Borough Council’s approval of a change in the arrangements for the killing of cattle, sheep and pigs at the Horotiu Freezing Works for Hamilton butchers, was granted at a meeting of the council last night when the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, presided. The South Auckland Master Butchers’ Association wrote stating that it approved of the changes, which included killing days only on Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays, and the company advised that it was willing to make the change if the council approved. In moving that the council approve of the change, Mr W. R. Shattock said that the new arrangements would not only be beneficial to the butchers but also to the consumers who would be able to buy a better quality article. Mr C. Lafferty stated that he had no quarrel with the suggested changes, but while the question of butchers’ arrangements was being discussed he thought something should be done about the butchers closing their shops on Saturday mornings. In other centres shops closed early on Friday nights and opened on Saturday mornings and, particularly in summer, he thought this was advisable for the benefit of the consumers.
