I ,* n ? al , ffa-llops for the O-hinemuri meeting took place on the various tracks this morning. Hearth The Paladin filly Hearth scored on each day at Geraldine, but the opposition could not be considered particularly formidable. In Work Again Schoolgirl has not been seen on the tracks lately. She has had a rest since the Grand National meeting, but M. R Ldwards lias her in useful work again at Yahlliutst. Probably she will T.7Tve one race before the Riccarton carnival. Raceaway lhe Acre gelding Raceaway can travel asi when acting under a light weight, and Hearth .any caught him in the last stride on the second day ut Geraldine. Shapes Well ]L and A. Cutts have several two-year-oids in work, amt one of them nmy go to Wiiigaiui for the McLean Stakes. The on-- in view for the trip is Full Pitch, a well-grown brown colt by Cricket Rat trom Sailor's Love. He toa>s not been seriously tried yet, but lie shapes well. Not Produced Recollection was not produced at the Geraldine meeting on Saturday owing, it vas stated, io the track becoming harder than on the llrst day, and in view of a trip to the Dunedin meeting ne.vt month it was not deemed advisable to start him under his big weight of -n.il. Turned Out For Spell Rebellion has been turned out Tor a spell, and jit is not known when he will be brought in again. liis stable mate. Dictate, is working well and lie is bunding up nicely. lie should be in good feuie for the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting, but he will probably have a race before then. Master Dingle .Master Dingle Is not yet a proficient jumper, but lie is improving, and as he -Ui.\ s rather well and can handle weight he should continue to pay his way in inis derailment. His next appearance is Mki-J.v to be made in ilic Kurow Cup on Saturday. Attractive Colt A two-year-old colt by Blatherskite fiom Chunnaine has attracted some attention on the Invercargill track. Charmuiiic is a sis-ter to Some Form and Kin Tin Tin, and half-sister to Tauramai and Passarorm. The colt is said to bear a marked resemblance io Tauramai who won the Dunedin Cup in Iy3 5. Passarorm won the Invercargill Cup last season. Poor Consolation scores of backers who picked the four placed horse cards to the extent of nearly £iouu with one of the biggest place-card operators in Melbourne early this month have been left “whistling for their money. - ' The only consolation they have is that the operator says he intends to refund til cm the money they invested. Maiden Winner Colerlca, the Marton maiden winner, has had seven previous unsuccessful starts though she had bei-n expected to show prominence on more than one occasion. As her success was gained by a solid finishing run, it may not be long before she wins again, as .-lie is bred to improve, being by Coi-►sms from Musical Moment. She is related to Bctorikoff. Norse’s Relative Urge, who had two races at Orarl, is a three-year-old chestnut gelding by valk.vrian from spurs, by Royal stag from Flourish, dam of Norse, and Is owned by his breeder, Mr A. S. Flworthy, for whom he is being trained at \\ ashdyke by F. Triirord. Unfortunately, Urge was not .in lino when the held in the Wainui Handicap on Saturday was sent off, and he was hopelessly left. Later in Season Airline's two races at Orari attracted attention to this good-looking colt toy Surveyor Trom Maid of the Air, by The Ace from Kenilworth Maid, by Kenilworth. He has grown Into a massive four-year-old, and will do with a good deal more racing before the best is seen or hlin. Not Finished Yet When silver streak finished out of a place in the Waikouaiti Cup last January it was announced by Hie oamaru trainer, T. Hobbs, that 'Mr E. H. Aubrey’s grand old horse had run his last race. But Silver Streak is apparently not done yet as he may be tried in the T. A. Munro Handicap at "the Kurow meeting to be held at Oamaru on Saturday. At Stratford Mr C. R. F. Tilley, the secretary to the Stratford Racing Club, is in camp, and the duties are being undertaken at present by Mr F. L. Tnomas. The club respring meeting, to be held on Saturday. October iy, nominations lor which close i on Friday, October 4. : Related to Passaform Platform, a halT-brother by Night Raid to Passaform. showed out in front for a while in the concluding event at Orari, but was out of the contest with half a mile to go. lie lias not .had a great deaJ of racing, and will require more time He is a solidly-built tliree-year-old resembling to a marked degree the Night Raid gelding Nightcalm, and more will he heard of him. Jockey Returning Private advice has been received that the New Zealand jockey, L. 11. Clifford, who has been riding in 'South Africa during the past 12 months, is to return to Auckland shortly. Clifford has ridden with a good deal of success in South Africa, and it is not yet known whether he will return there later or remain in New' Zealand. •He will, however, probably apply for a license as soon as he returns, and do some further riding in the Dominion. A Good Effort One of the most impressive efforts at Marton in view of the future was the run of The Buzzer in the open sprint. The Buzzer, who is one of our outstanding stayers, could naturally not go the early ! pace, but he was making up his ground i rapidly at the finish, and only just missed paying a dividend. It was his first race since he ran unplaced in tlie Cup on the same track last New Year’s Day, and it is a fail- indication that it may not take long for him to reach his form again. New Zealand on Top The additional £SOO donated to the prize or £7 50 for the Hill .'takes made a welcome bonus for Mr Ralph .-Stewart when Beau Vite won on Saturday. The win--I>. !••- -half was £1025. With ReauUvre and Beau Vito at present showing the best w.f.a. form in Sydney, from High Caste and Tidal Wave winning the Rosehill (Huim-a-. -New Zrjaliinrt bloodstock is asra in getting a wonder! ul advertisement \H these hm-ses were sold as yearlings at the National Sales. Aurie’s Star’s Record gome doubt is thrown on Aurie’s Star’s new six-- furlong record or I.B* at Flemington this month. 1 he-clock is started electrically by tbe barrier, but Is stopped bv hand. One critic says: -it seemed mcredible that Aurie s star with Ui.2 up could, have run six furlongs in I.Bj, and more incredible that All Veil, Adherent and Con Nar-u, the next three horses, •diould also have broken 1.0 4. One joc-k.-v said he could hardly believe that such fast ~ time was run. The horses were aided by the wind, which was nor fully behind them, and when All Veil and Union were level with Aurie’s Star a furlong and a-half from the post. Aurie’s star was ‘on the bit,’ and his rider, N. Creighton, had not asked him for an effort. When Creighton moved on him In the last furlong, he drew away and won comfortably.”
First Appearance An interesting runner at Orari on Saturday was the grey filly Portadown, by Pori law from Doretta. The dam was purchased in England for Mr E. Steele, of the Burnside stud, Oamaru, and was served in England to New Zealand time. Portadown was foaled at the Ellerslie stud, and is a most attractive three-year-old, and although she did not show up in her race on Saturday, her gallops on the track have Indicated that she will develop into a smart galloper. She Is one or F. Roberts’ team. Every Credential LeopardstowTi, winner of the Second Hurdles at Geraldine on Saturday, Is bred on distinct jumping lines, being by Day Comet from Princess Thurnham, by Thurnham from Heather Dew, dam or a useful horse in Heather Lad. Mr J. H. Grigg purchased Princess Thurnham in 10 32, and Leopards town was her first foal at Longbeach. She missed to Day Comet In 1935, and was not served In 1936 or 1937. Leopardstown has had very little racing, and his win on Saturday, in the circumstances, was very encouraging in view' of his later racing as a Jumper. Tidal Wave Tidal Wave, who won the Rosehill Guineas on Saturday, is trained by J. T. Jamieson, who paid 1450 guineas for him at the Trentham sales. By Tiderace from My Own, Tidal Wave is a halfbrother to Yours Truly (New Zealand cup winner). Lucrative and Pandect, the two 1-e defeated in the Guineas, were the Derby favourites. There has been a hoodoo on the Guineas winner in the D-'iLiv. Iml the fact that the Guineas was thl< year run at Randwick may enable Tidal ‘Wave to repeat the performance ol Biplane and capture the double. IldaJ Wave, who lopped the sales in his year, was bought on behalf of Mrs C. C. Galbraith.
