UNFAIRNESS ALLEGED LIMIT TO FOURTH PERIOD . (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Wednesday “ The provision made by the Minister of Customs is unfair both to New Zealand importers and British manufacturers,” said Mr Gainor Jackson, president of the Bureau of Importers, commenting upon the fifth j period import quotas. I “ The position is made even worse ! because of Mr Nash’s decision that all imports licensed under third and j fourth periods which do not arrive ' in New Zealand by December 31 are to be written off the fifth period licenses,” Mr Jackson continued. ! “ Some goods ordered under third and fourth period licenses have been i lost through enemy action while being transported to New Zealand, and there is now insufficient time for replacements to be made so that these articles will arrive here before December 31. It seems that with one stroke of the pen Mr Nash will cancel out fully 50 per cent of the licenses for manufactured goods that he has issued for the fourth period.”
