A fractured 1' tg was received by Milton Cooper, aged 15, son of Mr C. R. Cooper, a. farmer, of Glen Murray, when he. was thrown from a horse at his father’s farm yesterday. He was rer aoved to the Waikato Hospital.
Fire In Garage The Hamilton Fire Brigade received a call at about 11 o’clock last night to, a n outbreak in an unoccupied motor garage in Rua Street, Frankton. The fire was caused by a spark ..roiT i a g orse fi re earlier in the day, but, was extinguished by the brigade’s /st-aid apparatus after little damr /ge had been done.
Cost of Living Bonus At the monthly meeting of the Hamilton branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, held during the week-end, the following motion was carried: That in the opinion of the meeting the cost of living bonus, while acceptable, is totally inadequate and should be at least 10s a week, to cover the rising cost of living.
Soldiers’ Christmas Parcels The Hamilton Patriotic Committee yesterday packed 740 Christmas packages for the soldiers overseas, a task which was expected to occupy about three days, in a little over that number of hours. The aid of many willing helpers made the plan organised to cope with the parcels a great success, the packages now being ready for delivery.
Air Trainees On Leave Four former pupils of the Hamilton Technical High School, LeadingAircraftsmen A. Herbert, L. Wright, D. McKenzie and C. H. Butt, who commenced their training as airmenpilots with the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Levin together on July 2, have completed the second stage of their training at New Plymouth and leave for Blenheim for advanced instruction in flying on Saturday. They are at present on leave in Hamilton.
Convicted Twice In Two Days A statutory second offender for drunkenness, in that he was appearing for the second time in six months for that class of offence, Charles Ernest Cameron, aged 53, a labourer, of Cambridge, was fined £l, in default two days’ imprisonment, when he appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today. Senior-Sergeant A. G. McHugh said that Cameron was before the Court yesterday on a charge of being drunk and was convicted and discharged. Instead of going home he became drunk again. He hired a taxi and finished up at the police station.
Anti-gas Lecture Valuable preparation for any possible emergency is being made by members of the Women Auxiliary Volunteer Corps in Hamilton. One of the most important sides of war work yet touched upon by the corps is anti-gas drill and at the parade this week the unit gained information regarding the work when a lecture was given by Lieutenant W. Bates, D.C.M., N.Z.S.C., Gas Officer for the North Island, when he attended the unit parade. Civilian and military gas masks were used during ,the demonstration and the young women donned anti-gas clothing. One of the most interesting experiences for the members of the corps was their entry into a small room filled with tear gas.
